The Series 2 Super Sofa is born! I love sofas, actually forget that... I love COMFORT! When sitting I must be comfortable at all times, especially in my home or my client's homes. We were recently commissioned to design and fabricate a sofa for a client of ours, not just any sofa for not just any client. Violet and George are addicted to living well in comfort in their home surrounded by friends and family. They are also of that rare breed of human that actually enjoys having fun with their home furnishings while insisting on quality! In other words perfect clients. For them I designed the Series 2 Super sofa... version 1. This totally customizable system offers comfort, casual elegance and total
flexibility....
and....
and everything in between....! So why exactly is this sofa system so special? First of all it is built to be bombproof. The frame is engineered entirely from hardwood plywood. This allows for a stable frame which is relatively light but remarkably strong. The entire frame is then padded with Ultra cell foam and then pre-upholstered in a canvas. The cover is actually a slipcover which is so well fitted that it would be hard to tell the difference! The cushioning is a multi laminated combination of down, latex foam and Activus foam. Activus is a remarkable foam that has a material density of 3.5lbs per cubic foot! Activus has so much foam per inch that it will actually disperse weight laterally, where most foams depress vertically Activus spreads the weight out creating a comfortable base to build upon. Our next layer is a latex topper. Latex and Activus are eco friendly foams, Latex is all natural rubber and has the unique properties of being soft and having remarkable tensile strength allowing for incredible elasticity and the best support in it's class. Our last layer is a cluster fibre and down blend to give loft and ridiculous comfort. So the sofa is soft but very supportive. For this sofa we used Donghia's beautiful Sashiko fabric. This subtle yet complex design offers incredible surface interest, the pattern seems hand sewn and seemingly random but in fact has a pattern repeat of 54" which took me 4 full days to cut out! Being a slipcover means that it is easily serviceable and means you can change the covers to suit a changing style or season... how cool! And then there is the flexibility.... George has told me that since taking possession of the sofa he has been able to arrange it in over a dozen different configurations! Wow, why wouldn't everyone want that kind of flexibility?
