One of the benefits of being in such a creative space is seeing and experiencing the work in progress. The process of curtainmaking is fascinating, how the lengths of cloth are measured up, sewn together and the entire construction process follows... All the way to the hanging of the curtains.
I am going to share a few images on an ongoing basis from our workroom that have inspired me....
We are currently designing, making and assembling some very interesting treatments for a project in New York. It's nice that this year has seen Ravi Design grow into an international company, with a number of very interesting projects happening outside of Vancouver. It's great to be recognized in your own city (one day that might actually happen) but to be recognized for the quality of your work in cities that actually matter, like New York, Moscow, London, Barcelona, Reykjavik, Langley, Buones Aires, Los Angeles... to name a few... is very rewarding. Anyways...
Currently we are making a number of large treatments inspired by Freefall. Freefall was an assembly of banners that created shockwaves when it was introduced in 2007. I believe in some ways Freefall inspired the market tumble of 2008. I apologize if in some way my work destroyed any value you might have had in your stock portfolio...
Here you can (almost) see Anna... she is sewing a mountain of banners together. All said and done we hand made 550 individual banners for these treatments... consider that Freefall only had 62.... this gives you an idea of just how vast the treatments are.
When I see things like this I cry and smile. Crumpled cloth, stuff and rolls of fabric, I should tweet it.
