Curtain Wall.... Sheers in soft grey.

A little over a month ago we started work on a new home in West Vancouver, our first task was to design and fabricate some curtains for the living and dining room area. The home is a modern styled home, more open concept with a beautiful mix of finish and texture, from the striated marble around the fireplace, the heavily textured rug, the calfskin upholstery, to the large heavy rough hewn dining room table.

My task was set out for me, to create a curtain wall almost 50 feet wide by ten feet high, from the living room through to the dining area. To accomplish this I chose to mount the SuperGlide tracks right into the ceiling bending them around the corners as necessary. I selected a semisheer cloth from Chivasso, a soft grey with an almost film like quality, very chic. For the style of the curtain, it was a no brainer... Ripplefold, but for this application I customized them completely. For the curtain geeks out there... I not only created my own fullness by spacing the snaps at 8" centres but I also created a custom snap carrier cord at 4" centres, effectively creating a massive wave at double fullness. allowing for a substantial depth of 8" when stacked. To top it off we did away with snap tape altogether instead choosing to connect the material directly to the hardware offering a much cleaner finish.
The picture below shows the living room before the curtains were hung.

Below you can see the curtains hanging, what a  difference these make. They soften and warm up the room while creating an architectonic element at the windows. Look carefully at the size of the folds, very large, full and quite perfect!

Here you can see  a closer view of the stacked curtains. Utilizing a single length of track means the curtains can be stacked at any point along the track, allowing them to move freely. This is a very flexible way of curtaining your windows.
