Leather...

Leather is the most sensual of materials... both appealing and yet somehow repulsive. Appealing for it's lovely surface texture, it's tobacco, smoky smell, it's patina... repulsive for what it is and the unspeakable way it came into existence. Like so many things in our culture, leather is one of these unspoken taboos... love it or hate it.
Well I love it, I love working with it, I love the smell and the tactile surface of it. For me working with leather is a sensorial experience, I relish every moment of the spreading, touching, cutting sewing...

My being a very strict vegetarian may seem hypocritical,  but my attachment to leather is primal, inexplicable...
My introduction to sewing came in the form of a leather jacket I made for myself in the late 1980's... from that moment on I was hooked! I met my partner, Stacey through the alteration of her leather coat... Leather has brought great things to my life.
I buy most of my leather locally, from various suppliers. On a recent visit I decided taking pictures would be fun, especially seeing as I constantly need to come up with new and interesting things to talk about on my blog. It's hard for me, my life is so boring... anything out of the ordinary seems exciting!
The draped leather hanging on the racks really gets my creative juices flowing, makes me hungry to make something different and new.
