Slipcovered!

Linen, my favorite fabric for the summer, picked for it's softness, it's tactile hand, pliable nature and simplicity. The slipcover was designed to cover the mole coloured tweed upholstery, a veritable magnet, beckoning poochy's white hair. Reminded me how the magnetic longing of the loneliest of her red tresses would find their way onto my coat, only to be discovered later to much fuss. Somewhat more innocently,

my mandate was to simply offer a new washable removable, serviceable cover upon which the dog hair could nestle cozily between vacuums or washing. Glant was most accommodating, offering up a deliciously perfect linen which we cut, stretched, pressed and  was sewn into a perfectly articulated cover resting comfortably on the sofa's lean frame. Cut to fit like a pair of soft sandwashed beach pants, the cover offers both shape and ease and the linen is much cooler on the skin than wool.

Exterior slipcovers are very handy, especially to protect our fragile outdoor furniture form the harmful effects of the heavy chemspraying that seems to be happening more and more these days. It simply won't do to have them unprotected in such a hostile environment. My solution is to cover them in a low denier nylon, both water repellant and resistant to most airborne pollutants. Plus very comfortable... except on a very hot day in very short shorts.... that might get a little steamy.

 :)

Given my readers growing knowledge of construction, there will undoubtedly be a deep appreciation for the complexity of the cut and sew of these covers.
