A number of our clients are textile enthusiasts, the kind who love to touch and feel. They also collect rare and valuable textiles from around the world. Connection to textile culture affords us a view into our past, the time honored traditions and markings of a bygone era and a set of skills that are all but gone today. In our modern world a 10 year old who can text 70 words per minute is a marvel, well hundreds of years ago a person's handiwork was their identity... I digress.
Preserving and displaying these amazing textile pieces is a work in itself and Ravi Design is extremely fortunate to be a part of this process and it is a great honour to have these pieces arrive in our shop for mounting. Although everytime one shows up I feel I need to hire an armoured guard to stand by it...
Anyhow the latest piece of ridiculous beauty showed up a couple of weeks ago and it literally took me 10 days to find the right fabric to pair it with. In this case I selected a dark blue grey alcantara for the frame to complement the red and the embroidery... I think it turned out really nice! I had the frame constructed along with the stretcher to very precise standards then padded and upholstered the frame... it's a labour of love but the end result was amazing. Looking at the piece up close you can see the incredible handwork and detail that just isn't present in our lives these days in many ways. I can just imagine that many years ago someone made this and had no idea where it would end up and then it shows up in our shop and we add our touch... where will it go from here, no one knows... Well I know where it's going but I mean years from now... where will it end up?
Hello,
ReplyDeleteI like your blog and would like to link to it. I'm building a static Web site for a custom curtain-maker in the Saint Louis area. My client does not want a blog of her own on this Web site.
