The Gentleman's Room...

Have you ever wanted to smoke a cigar in an old pub? Walnut clad walls, brandy snifters, upholstered chairs... wooden floors... that smell, a mix of old tobacco, liquor soaked wood and leather....
Well I think often about this, especially seeing I have been working in a gentleman's pub for over 6 months now and we finally put the finishing touches on the windows in the smoking room.
I really wanted the curtains here to be clean and simple, but retain the elegance of the space... I used a rare silk brocade, lined and trimmed with silk taffeta in a very strong contrasting colour, an electric blue.
Really curtains on this level are just about the mood, function is somehwat secondary. The aesthetic becomes the function. It is a real challenge working on projects like these, the curtains not only have to reflect their surroundings but need a life of their own, they need to have a space to add their two cents but not overwhelm. It's a very fine balance....
Anyhow... enjoy.

and PS... yes it's real... all of it....

  1. I would love to know more about this room. Especially about the ceiling and the exquisite paneling.
