Las Vegas!

Vegas, I hadn't been there in decades... in fact my idea of Vegas was more like Robert De Niro in Casino than the sensory overload I was treated to. Was there ever a seriousness in this place? It seems like the playground of the jet set, Bentleys, Rolls Royces, Limos etc... amazing hotels, Casinos, architecture... Money flows through the streets, it seems entirely surreal.
Anyhow why was I there? What was Mr. Linen doing in a place so far removed from his beloved rumpled sheets and crusty bread rolls? I was presenting to my peeps, that's what! I was invited by Grace Mcnamara and the IWCE (International Window Coverings Exposition) to come and blab about my work, my business and basically everything to do with curtains...sort of.
I met some amazing people, some amazing looking people, some old friends, some middle aged friends... lots of hotel staff and I was treated like a rock n roll star!
I spoke at length, as I do, about quality and the need for better standards in our industry. I spoke about how ripplefolds were transforming my business. I spoke about our perception of luxury and our values surrounding our work, our aesthetic and the direction we would like our lives to move in. I spoke about relating to people who you cannot really relate to. It's hard to sell amazing curtains to billionaires when you are having trouble paying rent... but it can be done. Billionaires need nice curtains, probably more than anyone. Judging by the sorry state of poor work I have been treated to here in Vancouver of late I can only imagine the same is true elsewhere.
I imagine a day where people who appreciate fine wine, fine cars and fine art will look critically at their curtains and resist the temptation to throw up.
So there you go... that was what I went there to say.. I guess I could have just stayed here and skyped but that would be boring...

Yes... that is me and Grace McNamara! I am indeed wearing a kilt, one I made, very comfortable. I find it interesting that my sporran has attached itself to Grace's leg, but she's magnetic like that.
oh well... back to work!
