Men Sewing

Making stuff from textiles with MEN! Doesn't that sound like a TV show? Well it was what was on last month when I invited the men from my men's group into my space to explore the world of textiles.
Textiles are my life, I am steeped in linen, cotton, hemp, wool, silk. I wanted to share my gift with other men and open up an opportunity for them to experiment with textile. Some of them had sewn, some of them had parents who sewed, some had never done this before. Our laboratory is amazing, we have virtually every machine, every textile, every tool you could imagine. With the equipment in our shop you could make a sofa, a suit, a wedding dress, a table cloth, a curtain, leather goods... whatever. It was interesting to see what men were going to create given the opportunity....

From leather goods to felt containers to manskirts...

My son Nuri was on hand to help the men figure it all out. I makeit a point to teach my children about what it is I do all day long. Each of them know how to sew and are comfortable with textiles. Nuri is especially adept at making leather pieces. It was nice to have several generations of men working together.

What an incredible bounty!

Happy Man made his very own skirt!
Amazing.
